2009/10 Season Outlook
The Pacers are looking to replace 4 senior lettermen lost to graduation in Sean McIntire, Kyle Eberst, Patrick Kennedy, and Sean Rothermel. All four were vital members of the 2008-2009 team. The quartet started a combined 148 games for the Pacers over the past 3 seasons.

McIntire, the team's best defensive player a year ago, along with Eberst (All- OCC Honorable Mention), Kennedy (All -OCC 2nd Team) and Rothermel (All-OCC First Team and Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year) will be difficult to replace.

Kennedy is one of the better point guards to play at Hayes. He was a tremendous passer and an excellent shooter from 3 point range ranking 8th in the central district (Division I) in 3 pt fg % at 42.8%. McIntire and Eberst, both fiery defenders who consistently guarded other team's best players, affected games with their intensity and knack for making clutch plays at key moments of the games. Rothermel was the man in the middle for the Pacers for the past couple of seasons. He lead the team in scoring 16.9 ppg and rebounding 11.2 rpg (a school record) and willed the team to several improbable victories in which the Pacers were predicted as underdogs, including victories over district finalists Dublin Coffman and Westerville North.

Expected back for the Pacers this season are 3 returning lettermen; Senior guard Nick Caudill, junior swingman Nicholas Potter (All-District 11 Honorable Mention in 08-09), and sophomore forward Jake Bosiokovic. All three were part-time starters a year ago.

Also expected in the mix for the Pacers are sophomores Matty Bingaya (PG/SG) and Zachary Parsons (SG), and juniors Keith Butts (F), Braxton Coleman (C) and Chase Pennington (PG/SG).

The Pacers are expected to be very young this season and hope to "jell" early. First-Year coach Jordan Blackburn, who has been with the program several years, said he expects the Pacers to be "competitive with every team we play and to back down from no one." "We did lose a lot to graduation, but I like the group we have coming back and think the potential is there for some good things to happen if we continue to stay focused on getting better every single day."

Blackburn cited Nick Caudill as a reason for that continued focus; "Nick Caudill is an exceptional leader and has been a tremendous asset to our coaching staff this entire off season. He has helped immensely in keeping the boys focused each and every day in the weight room, in open gyms and at our conditioning. He is the unquestioned leader of our team."

February 27, 2010 - SECTIONAL FINAL
Delaware 46 Marion-Franklin 50
Potter 2 points. Caudill 6 points. Bingaya 18 points. Coleman 14 points. Bosiokovic 6 points. The Delaware Hayes Pacers may have played their finest game of the season tonight. However, it proved to not be enough as they fell to eighth-seeded Marion Franklin by a score of 50-46. The Pacers matched their opponent's physicality and played quite well all night long against a much bigger and more athletic Marion-Franklin team. They out-rebounded the Red Devils 28-26 and shot 57% from the floor (19-33). However, the Pacers failed to capitalize on two one and one opportunities in the final 36.4 seconds of the game. The Pacers went to the foul line down 2 points with 10.9 seconds left and missed the front end of a one and one. After a Marion Franklin rebound and a Delaware foul, the Pacers got the ball back with 8.2 seconds left down 2 points. The Pacers hopes of an upset were crushed however as Marion-Franklin's Jeremi McCoy made a key steal, was fouled and converted both free throws with 6.8 seconds left to account for the final margin of 50-46. The standouts tonight for the Pacers were Matty Bingaya and Braxton Coleman. For the game, Bingaya had 18 points on 7-9 shooting, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Coleman chipped in 14 points on 7-9 shooting, and added 10 rebounds. Coleman also helped hold Marion Franklin's 6'9'' center Elijah Macon to 11 points and 4 rebounds. Macon has verbally committed to West Virginia. The Pacers finished the year at 12-10. The Pacers are expected to have 7 returning letterwinners back next season with the only player departing being Senior Captain Nick Caudill.

February 24, 2010 - SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT
Delaware 30 St. Charles 26
Potter 1 point. Caudill 8 points. Bingaya 14 points. Coleman 2 points. Bosiokovic 2 points. Parsons 3 points. The Delaware Hayes Pacers defeated St. Charles tonight by a score of 30-26. Matty Bingaya led the way for the Pacers with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Nick Caudill chipped in 8 points, including the two free throws that sealed the game with seven seconds left. On the final play of the game Keith Butts intercepted a cross court pass to assure the Pacers a first round tournament victory. Tonight's victory was the 12th win for the Pacers, which ties for the most wins that the Delaware Boys Basketball Program has had dating back to the 2003-2004 season. The Pacers travel to Hilliard Bradley on Saturday for a sectional final game against 8th seeded Marion-Franklin.

February 19, 2010
Delaware 50 Olentangy Orange 54
Potter 12 points. Caudill 6 points. Bingaya 19 points. Coleman 9 points. Bosiokovic 4 points.
The Delaware Hayes Pacers lost to the Orange Pioneers tonight by a score of 54-50. The Pacers made a valiant comeback in the second half but couldn't get over the hump. Part of the reason was a cold night at the charity stripe. For the night the Pacers were 5 of 21 at the free throw line and Orange was 15 of 21. The Pacers were shooting around 70 percent from the free throw line over the past 6 games as a team, coming into the game. Coach Blackburn cited the free throw struggles as a main reason for the defeat. "You cannot beat a good team like Orange shooting that poorly from the line. Those misses become wasted possessions and its inexcusable." The Pacers shot nearly 50 percent from the field once again and only committed three turnovers in the 2nd half but the missed free throws were the story. With the win and a New Albany victory over Mt. Vernon, Orange earned a share of the OCC Capital Division Crown. Both teams finished with a record of 12-2. Next up for the Pacers is St. Charles on February 24th. Tip-off time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.

February 12, 2010 - Senior Night
Delaware 52 New Albany 48
Parsons 9 Points, Bosiokovic 9 points, Bingaya 12 points, Butts 3 points, Coleman 4 points, Caudill 5 points, Potter 10 points. The Delaware Hayes Pacers used a 20-12 fourth quarter run to come back and defeat the New Albany Golden Eagles tonight by a score of 52-48. The Pacers were down 21-17 at the half and trailed 36-32 at the end of the fourth quarter. The Pacers clawed back early in the fourth quarter via a 6-0 run, which included a steal and finish by junior swingman Nick Potter, who was fouled on the play. Potter converted the free throw and after a Pacer steal and a three pointer by senior guard Nick Caudill, the Pacers had their first lead of the second half, at 38-36 with 7:08 remaining. After a Ryan Mayle free throw the Pacers extended their lead to 41-37 on a three pointer by sophomore guard Zachary Parsons at the 6:45 mark. From there the two teams fought back and forth in a game which would see four more lead changes before the final tally was accounted for. The Golden Eagles used their own 5-0 run to take a 42-41 lead on a pull-up 18 footer by Sam Krebs and a step back three pointer by Smotrich. On the next Eagle possession sophomore guard Matthew Bingaya converted a steal into a two handed jam that got the home Pacer crowd on its feet and gave the Pacers a 43-42 lead. Ryan Mayle was then fouled on a drive to the basket and made the first of two free throws to tie the score at 43. His second shot missed and caromed of of the Pacers out of bounds. The ensuing possession saw Eagle guard Sam Krebs fouled on a drive to the basket and he gave the lead back to the Eagles at 44-43 with 1:27 to play. The Pacers responded once again, this time on a seven foot runner in the paint by sophomore guard Zach Parsons. Parsons was fouled on the play and converted the free throw to give the Pacers a 46-44 lead. The Eagles countered with a Smotrich three pointer on a pass from Krebs from the right wing to retake the lead at 47-46. On the ensuing Pacer possession Nick Potter was fouled on a drive to the basket and converted the first free throw to tie the score at 47 with 27 seconds to play. Potter's second shot rimmed out and was tapped up in the air by Pacer junior center Braxton Coleman. The ball landed in the hands of Pacer sophomore forward Yogi Bosiokovic and he converted the lay-in to give the Pacers a lead they would not relinquish at 49-47. The Eagles missed a short runner in the lane and on the rebound a jump ball was called. The ball was awarded to the Pacers. On the in bounds Zack Parsons was fouled and went to the line shooting a one and one. He made the first and missed the second, giving the Pacers a 50-47 lead with seven seconds remaining. The Pacers then fouled the Eagles Sam Krebs sending him to the line with 2.2 seconds left. He made the first and intentionally missed the second. The ball was rebounded by Braxton Coleman who was fouled with less than a second to go. Coleman nailed both free throws to account for the final margin, Pacers 52 Eagles 48.

February 8, 2010
Delaware 69 Hilliard Bradley 61
Potter 8 points. Caudill 12 points. Bingaya 19 points. Coleman 16 points. Bosiokovic 8 points. Parsons 6 points. The Delaware Hayes Pacers withstood a late rally by the Hilliard Bradley Panthers tonight to hold on for a 69-61 win. Matty Bingaya and Braxton Coleman led the way for the Pacers, with Bingaya totaling 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Coleman adding 16 points and 7 rebounds on 7-9 shooting. Nick Caudill chipped in 12 points, including a clutch three pointer after the Panthers had cut it to three in the 4th. Coleman and Caudill combined to go 5-6 at the line down the stretch to seal the game. For the game Caudill was 3-4 from the three point line, accounting for all of the Pacers long range tallies. He now has made 44 three pointers on the year which ranks him among the top 5 in the central district in 3's made (44) and percentage (42.8%), 44-103). The Pacers host New Albany this Friday in the last home game of the season. The Ea gles beat the Pacers 72-67 on January 23rd in double overtime.

February 2, 2010 - Ohio Capital Conference
Delaware 53 Big Walnut 54 OT
Potter 9 points. Caudill 3 points. Bingaya 21 points. Coleman 4 points. Bosiokovic 6 points. Parsons 10 points. The Pacers were defeated by a score of 54-53 in overtime tonight. They Pacers battled back from down ten in the second half to tie the score at the buzzer on a pull up jumper by sophomore point guard Matt Bingaya. However, a key turnover and some ill-advised fouls in the overtime period proved critical in the 54-53 loss. The Pacers held the Eagles without a field goal in the overtime period, but the Eagles went to the foul line eleven times, compared to the Pacers two trips in the four minute overtime period. Having to go the length of the court, the Pacers had the ball down one point with 4 seconds remaining. Zack Parsons' 16 footer rimmed out as time expired giving the Golden Eagles a 54-53 win. Sophomore guards Matt Bingaya and Zack Parsons led the way for the Pacers with Bingaya netting 21 points and 9 rebounds and Parsons chipping in 10 points, several of which were scored in the 4th quarter and overtime. Coach Blackburn said Eagles center "Jon Cannell was the difference in the game and tonight and we didn't have an answer for him." Cannell led the Eagles with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

January 29, 2010
Delaware 91 Watkins Memorial 40

Bingaya chipped in 19 and Parsons added 17 points and 5 assists, while committing zero turnovers. Nick Potter added 8 points and 8 rebounds and Nick Caudill and Keith Butts each contributed 9 points, a season high for Butts. With 3 more three's made tonight Nick Caudill has 41 on the season ranking him among the top 5 in central Ohio for made threes this season.

January 26, 2010
Delaware 30 Mount Vernon 36
Potter 5 points. Caudill 9 points. Bingaya 10 points. Bosiokovic 4 points. Parsons 2 points. The Delaware Hayes boys basketball team was defeated tonight by a score of 36-30 by the Mt. Vernon Yellow Jackets. The Pacers (8-7, 5-4) played good defense all night and except for a couple possessions at the end of the third quarter did a nice job being patient and taking good shots on offense. The win was the 13th straight for the Yellow Jackets (13-2) who sit atop the OCC Capital division at 8-1, tied with Olentangy Orange. Matt Bingaya led Delaware with 10 points and 8 rebounds and Nick Caudill chipped in 9. Ben Hoar was the player of the game for Mount Vernon with 14 points and 8 rebounds, including 2 crucial offense rebound putbacks in the 4th quarter to squash Hayes' comeback.

January 23, 2010
Delaware 67 New Albany 72 2OT
Potter 12 points. Caudill 11 points. Bingaya 15 points. Butts 2 points. Coleman 5 points. Bosiokovic 12 points. Parsons 10 points. The Delaware Hayes Pacers lost in double overtime to New Albany last night. The Pacers put up a valiant effort despite battling foul trouble throughout. Sophomores Zack Parsons and Jacob Bosiokovic really stepped up according to Coach Blackburn. “Down the stretch of our close games this year most of our scoring has come from Caudill and Bingaya. Tonight we had Pars and Yogi really step it up and make some crucial plays at crucial times.” The Pacers played both overtimes without Bingaya, who leads the team in points, rebounds and assists. They were down by 5 at one point in the first overtime and battled back to tie it up. In the second OT the score was tied at 67 with less than a minute to go when Eagles forward Nick Sosh was fouled on a drive to the basket. He made both free throws and the Pacers came down and missed and were forced to foul in the final seconds. Coach Blackburn credited New Albany for “hitting several tough shots that were closely contested” down the stretch. (The Eagles hit a three point field goal to tie the score in the final seconds of regulation and in the first overtime, with both shots coming from well behind the three point line). Overall, Coach Blackburn felt, “it was the best we have played as a unit down the stretch of any game this season as several people stepped up and hit big shots and big free throws.”

Matty Bingaya had 16 points and Keith Butts had 8 points and 7 rebounds and Delaware Hayes beat the Marion Pleasant Spartans by a score of 53-19 tonight. Delaware created 23 turnovers on the night in what Coach Blackburn called the Pacers best defensive outing of the season. "They have a tough, disciplined system at Pleasant and can score the ball. They put up 81 points on Olentangy earlier this season" (in an 81-69 Pleasant win). "Our boys played much better helpside defense tonight than they did last night, or all season for that matter, and that was the key to the game." Next up for Delaware is a trip to Franklin Heights on Friday January 22nd and a trip to New Albany on Saturday January 23rd.

January 15, 2010
Delaware 53 Olentangy Orange 68
Bingaya 18 points. Coleman 8 points. Caudill 9 points. Potter 8 points. Bosiokovic 8 points. Pennington 2 points. December 29, 2009
Delaware 38 Pickerington Central 39
Potter 7 points. Caudill 6 points. Bingaya 1 point. Butts 1 point. Coleman 8 points. Bosiokovic 3 points. Parsons 12 points. The Delaware Hayes Pacers lost a close one to the Pickerington Central Tigers on Tuesday night. The Pacers started off strong and had a 29-18 lead at halftime. However, in the second half the Pacers showed their youth, turning the ball over 12 times and going 2 for 9 at the free throw line as the Tigers crept back into the game. The intensity level was outstanding as both teams left it all on the floor and each team had ample opportunities to win the game. Despite only making 3 field goals and turning it over 12 times in the second half, the Pacers had the ball with 2 seconds left under their own basket with a chance to win. A closely contested 5 footer by sophomore forward Jacob Bosiokovic rimmed out as the buzzer sounded. Coach Blackburn credited the defense for both teams and said he was extremely proud of how hard the Pacers played all night. "Our defense kept us in the game tonight and that is exactly what good teams do... when you have an off night shooting or you're not taking as good of care of the ball as you should, you find a way to stay in the game and compete. We are young and we are certainly improving." Sophomore guards Zack Parsons and Matty Bingaya led the way for the Pacers tonight as Parsons scored 12 points (all coming on 3's) and Bingaya contributed 9 rebounds and 9 assists.

December 28, 2009
Delaware 49 Olentangy Liberty 56
Potter 5 points. Caudill 3 points. Bingaya 19 points. Coleman 8 points. Bosiokovic 11 points. Parsons 3 points. The Delaware Hayes Pacers suffered a 56-49 loss on Monday night to the Olentangy Liberty Patriots. Delaware missed 14 shots in the paint for the game and committed a season high 17 turnovers. On the other side of things Liberty ran their four around one offense quite well and were rewarded with several back door baskets, against the young Pacers team, who were caught out of position at times. The Pacers finished the game shooting 49 % from the field, just the second time this year they have shot below 50%. Overall, coach Blackburn felt that the Patriots were prepared and executed their offense quite well down the stretch. The Pacers finished 1 for 11 from the 3 point line and had a few costly turnovers in the final quarter of the game.

Cannell had posted several nice games in a row coming in to this one for the Eagles, including a 27 point, 16 rebound outburst against Hilliard Bradley on December 18th. For the Pacers, Braxton Coleman chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds despite battling foul trouble for most of the night and Chase Pennington and Zach Parsons each contributed 5 points and a three point field goal.
